Esquimalt Community Amenity Engagement
We co-led the public engagement process to assist the Township gather input on project ideas for the use of $17 million—the McLoughlin Point Amenity Reserve Funds to be used for capital projects in waterfront parks, recreation facilities, and a public safety facility.
The Township of Esquimalt wished to develop and execute a community engagement and planning process to inform Working Group recommendations and ultimately Council decisions for the allocation of funding for community projects related to waterfront park improvements, recreation and public space projects, and the public safety facility.
The process was high profile, engaging and fun. $17M is a large sum of money and a was fantastic opportunity for community development – it also provided a very positive platform through which to bring community members together and connect to the place they live.
The project required clear communications related to the requirements of the funding, a detailed engagement process to capture representative input from the community and account for special interest groups, attention to detail in the coding and theming of the input to represent the input accurately and fairly, and the development of project selection criteria to enable Council decision-making. The project culminated in a Committee of the Whole workshop with Council to present the detailed round 2 engagement input related to the projects and to finalize the project evaluation criteria.
